They mix quite painfully for the first few minutes, and the pain goes away. Still can Rev match, but unintentional tire squeals are common at Green lights...

Rev matching is completely unnecessary 95% of the time.

Rev matching on downshifts, jolts really hard if I don't.

Me neither. The way my car is setup I can’t phyiscally do it without putting my right leg into a really cumbersome position

Try manuals and a pulled groin.

Drove myself home after partially tearing the LCL in my left knee.

You’ll be fine.

I would disagree with that. For one, 95% of semi trucks have un-synchronized gearboxes. That means that if you don’t rev-match you will grind, whether you rev-match with double clutching or float-shifting is a separate discussion.

Rev-matching with double clutching on a traditional synchro gearbox will save wear and tear on your synchros and the engine as well. You’re getting the engine up to speed by giving it more fuel and air how it’s used to, and not making is spin faster by spinning the crank faster. Not rev-matching and just dropping the clutch on a slower spinning engine introduces a tremendous amount of torque to the crank and rods. Ask me what happens when you do that. (Hint, I didn’t do an engine swap in my Fiero because I wanted a new engine.)

I sprained my right foot about a month ago and it still hits a little. The first time driving the metro home after a week out of town was painful. I could left foot brake on the auto truck I had the week out of town. The ride home was interesting.

Rev-matching =/= heel-to-toe shifting. If you can drive, you have room to rev-match. You can rev match with double clutching by moving your feet from pedal to pedal.
